Hello to everyone out there in the Do Art Nation! We hope that your creative projects have been going well, and that you are continuing to stay positive, creative, and wacky! I’m super excited for my upcoming workshops and programs, especially a creative assembly I’ve got coming up at the Hampshire Elementary School on Friday.
Yesterday was an incredible day here in Northern Illinois, because it was 60°! I decided to do some drawing outside. I set up my whiteboard, and spent the afternoon drawing a picture of… a pretty princess axolotl!

I started with our stick figure plus drawing. Those of you who have been at our comic book workshops and programs will have heard of Stick Figure Plus, a drawing exercise that allows us to practice drawing the human shape in different poses. Then I turned the stick figure plus into a pretty princess axolotl, complete with a tiara, pink dress, and Nike shoes. Then I added some color: pink for the dress, green for the skin, purple for the gills, as well as a blue princess castle, a pink and purple unicorn, and a Vincent van Gogh -esque starry night background.
It was awesome to be able to just enjoy being outside, making something wacky! Have you ever made art outside? What kind of art did you make? Let us know in the comments, and don’t forget to…keep creating!
