Love To See It: Do Art in the News This Week

Hello to everyone out there in the Do Art Nation!

It’s been an amazing summer so far. It’s been truly inspiring to see so many people–kids, parents, educators–come out to make art and have fun with us at workshops from Wyoming to Indiana. Stay tuned for more pictures, stories, and of course ARTWORK!

This week has been especially exciting for us, as we’ve seen Do Art featured in not one but TWO news stories! One was from News Channel Nebraska Northeast, about our recent workshop in Norfolk Nebraska! I was particularly excited to come back to Norfolk after our poetry workshop there in April. This time the kids brought all the comic con energy, and we made not one but TWO comics together. Special shout out to Grant, a boy featured in the story, who brought his dragon story to life on the whiteboard. And thanks to Sarah and Brendan from News Channel Nebraska, who stayed to ask a few questions about Do Art, and turned out an amazing story and video.

The second news story comes from the Ackley World Journal in Ackley Iowa, where we held a creative assembly last week. The kids absolutely brought the energy to this one. Thanks to Corey Meints, who took some amazing pictures of the assembly, took the time to ask me a few questions about Do Art, and wrote a great article.

One of the amazing things about working with libraries across the country is seeing all the ways people in America come together and build community. I’ve always had a lot of respect for local journalists precisely because they showcase what’s happening in the world around us, connecting us to the places we live. As we continue to travel across the country, bringing Do Art to people from Lovell Wyoming to Danbury Connecticut, we continue to be inspired by the creativity and dedication it takes to create community, to educate and inform people of all ages, and to make a masterpiece of our daily lives and the places we are blessed to call home.

How do you bring art to the place you live? How do you add a little creativity to the world around you? Write to us and let us know–and check out our list of events. We’ll be coming to a library, school, or park district near you soon, and we can’t wait to see what you create with us!
