Hello to everyone out there in the Do Art Nation! We hope it’s been a creative year so far, and as we head into February I hope you’re all ready to get you ART on!
I’ve been looking through some of the drawings I got last year. It’s been very rewarding to see some of the amazing things that kids created at our workshops, and I wanted to share one of them with you.

Here’s a comic about…Flamingo Chet! It was made by a girl at a workshop in Somerset Ohio. We made an incredible comic about The Other Thing in which I co-starred as the mayor of a city. We worked together to defeat The Other Thing, who used a doomsday device to become a huge Godzilla monster, and ended up shrinking him even smaller than before!
But we do more than just make comics as a group! The kids were especially engaged at making their own comics, and one girl drew the amazing comic that you see in the picture. She made a comic of me being turned into a flamingo. I was deeply depressed at first, missing my human form. But I’m inspired to buy some new shoes at the store. Through the power of these “sick shoes,” Flamingo Chet was able to learn that he could have a great time outside just being his WACKY flamingo self.
It was absolutely hilarious watching her create this comic, sad flamingo faces included. It came in the middle of a crazy week that had me driving from Pennsylvania, back across Ohio, back to the East Coast and finally back to Illinois for the 4th of July. In the midst of all this hectic activity it was amazing to see all the little moments of wacky inspiration that the kids brought to our workshops.
And we’re getting ready to do it all again! It’s going to be an amazing year of art and creativity! What moments of creativity and inspiration do you remember from last year? Let us know in the comments, and don’t forget to KEEP CREATING!
