Hello to everyone out there in the Do Art Nation! Many of us are wrapping up summer vacation as we prepare to go back to school, and many of us are starting to get excited for fall activities.
After an incredible summer reading season, we at Do Art Productions are ready to keep bringing the wacky creativity into fall and beyond. Last week I spent some time at some park districts and the Chicagoland area, and as always it was amazing to see the creativity and humor on display.
One of the fun things about doing workshops that span multiple days is that you’re able to spend more time with the kids, which also means coming up with new characters and ideas that we can develop more fully. One such character is…Bananatron!
Because I incorporate lots of banana merch into my personal style, I get lots of banana drawings. I get drawings of me as a banana, as well as drawings of other banana characters. One kid at a workshop in Roselle, Illinois, who is a huge fan of the Godzilla movies, came up with the idea of a giant banana mecha robot that would aid our character The Other Thing in its nefarious plots.
This culminated in day three, when we made a YouTube video about Bananatron saving the world from a fruit salad dragon! It was a hard-fought battle, but one with help from the ever reliable lava bucket.
Making these comic book movies is an absolute blast, and I’m looking forward to doing it even more! Have you ever brought your own original characters to life? Let us know in the comments, and don’t forget to keep creating!
