Messy Masterpieces: Making Art with Fancy Sue!

Hello to everyone out there in the Do Art Nation!

We hope that you’ve been having an awesome and creative spooky season. We’ve been having an awesome time here out at these creative workshops and assemblies. Mr. Jerry just got back from New York, and is on his way to Minnesota this week. I had an amazing time in Greendale, Wisconsin at our Messy Masterpieces painting workshop. Jerry’s aunt Sue, an incredibly talented painter and teacher, came out with me and made an awesome painting with the kids.

What makes our paint workshop special is that we do more than just create individual works of art. We combine our creative talents to create a canvas together!  Just like with our comics or acting workshops, we use our creativity and spontaneity to help the kids really make the workshop their own.

In this case, chatting with some kids before the workshop started, we settled on an underwater theme for our group painting. Fancy Sue, as she is known, got us started with an underwater scene that included kelp, undersea waves, and a mermaid cat! The kids added their own details, coloring in the mer-cat, adding underwater creatures like an orca whale, and all kinds of wacky colors like yellow and lime green.

It’s always a joy to roll up my sleeves, get my hands a little dirty, and have fun painting.  Group painting offers its own thrill, because you get to see the ideas of others in action, learning as you collaborate together.

Do you like to paint with others? Let us know in the comments, and don’t forget to keep creating!
