Dragon Magic: Bringing Puppets to Life Through Acting!

Hello to everyone out there in the Do Art Nation!

We hope that you’re all getting ready for Halloween as Spooky Season is in full swing. We’ve been having an awesome time bringing Do Art to libraries across the country through comic book, digital art, and acting workshops.

At the end of our acting workshops, I like to create a project that the kids can show to family and friends: a puppet show! A. For a Do Art puppet show we create a title, characters and plot, and then act out a short four scene skit with puppets. You can see the results on our YouTube channel, and I am super excited to share some of the results with you.

Covers of Dragon-themed Puppet Shows.

At some of our most recent puppet shows, kids at two different park districts decided to include a special fantasy character: a dragon! It’s always funny when kids in completely different groups decide on a common theme, and it was especially funny to see the kids in both Barrington and Tinley Park decide to include a dragon in their puppet show. At the park district in Barrington, Illinois, our characters This That and The Other Thing go on a hike. The Other Thing steals an egg from a dragon, and the dragon abducts them to get its revenge. At the acting workshop in Tinley Park, a dragon buys a pencil to eat, and The Other Thing decides to steal it!

It’s always inspiring to see the collaboration and creativity on display, as well as all the ways that kids make the puppet show their own.
